The cookie based identity model preceded the selector based identity model. The cookie based identity model uses the transaction security layer protocol and browser cookie specification for providing web identity.

The cookie model is not cross site sensitive. It is also has limited context sensitivity. Context is limited to a machine and session definition only.

The cookie based model is highly subject to spoofing, phishing and malware.

The cookie based model is only supported by the Internet browser and not by the operating system or independent applications.
